Etiquette & Safety
line

Make your visit safe and enjoyable. Visitors to more remote areas of southeastern Utah are advised that conditions can be harsh and provisions should be carried to deal with heat, storms, accidents or breakdowns. Always carry extra water, food, appropriate clothing and a first aid kit. Let someone know where you are going and when you expect to return. Carry a cellular phone if you have one, it will work from high points. Please inquire about road conditions prior to making a trip. Note that many guide books are written for people in the best of shape and adjust accordingly. Pick up a good emergency checklist from a B.L.M. or Forest Service office. You will enjoy your trip more knowing that you are prepared to help yourself, or if you encounter someone else having trouble.

Visitors should know that many areas contain extensive private lands. Be courteous and respect property rights, livestock, closed gates, and ranching operations. Pre-historic and historic sites are fragile. Do not touch rock art in any way, just the oil from you fingers can cause damage. Please don't damage trees and bushes - pack in your firewood or charcoal and use a fire pan. Pack out all trash and garbage. Be aware that many areas have off-raod vehicle restrictions.
