Alaska Fishing Information

Clover Pass Resort: Fish for all Seasons
Along the southern tip of Alaska's Inside Passages, bountiful schools of migrating Pacific salmon funnel into the protected waterways surrounding Ketchikan, Alaska. This mass gathering point for four species of Pacific Salmon has afforded Ketchikan a reputation as "The Salmon Capitol of Alaska" and Clover Pass Resort is located in the center of the action.

Clover Pass is located at the mouth of the Behm Canal which is noted for its particularly strong salmon runs. The area is dotted with islands, points, small bays and inlets providing outstanding fishing for four different species of salmon as well as Halibut, Red Snapper, Sea Bass and a variety of tasty Cod.

King Salmon, also called Chinook, are the largest of the Pacific Salmon and they usually peak during May and June. Although they are the least numerous, we take many fish in the 25 to 45 pound class with some topping the 50 pound mark. By mid-June the Pink Salmon run is on, offering some fast action before the Silver Salmon arrive providing some especially wild action for this species notoriously known for its power, endurance & acrobatics
Fishing: A haven for skiff-fishing
Many of our prime fishing waters are in close proximity to the islands and coves right in front of the resort creating an ideal setting for the do-it-yourself skiff fisherman. No matter your fishing skill level the protected waters and abundance of fish make this area ideal for anglers of all experience levels. To many saltwater anglers, this opportunity of fishing Alaskan waters from small boats or skiffs is most appealing-you're on your own to fish, cruise, and enjoy the scenic surroundings from your own boat.

To meet all of your fishing needs, guests purchasing the standard package receive a trolling boat equipped with an outboard motor, fuel, net, gaff-hook, rods, reels, bait and basic tackle. Fishing licenses and specialty tackle such as flashers, hoochies, artificial lures and jigs can be purchased from our tackle shop.

Most people prefer trolling or mooching for salmon, while others seek the action offered by drift-fishing the bottom for Snapper, Seabass, Halibut and Cod. Irregardless of your fishing style, our staff members are friendly and knowledgeable and will be happy to show you some of the local hotspots within easy access of the lodge. Many salmon are caught spin casting right off the dock while others fish the bottom for Halibut, which sometimes top the 100-pound mark!
