Social Media Management – St. George Utah
In a perfect world every company would have their own designated social media manager who’s role it to monitor and contributing to the company’s social media properties. The world is far from perfect and the need for the presence of a brand, product, individual or corporation on their social media properties is a requirement if they want to succeed online. The role of a social media manager is similar to that of a community manager on a website forum or public relations representative and if this position is not being filled then there are missed opportunities and most likely loss of online market share.
OLWM began managing social media in early 2010. We focus on making relevant posts that will boost a company’s exposure online. We also are quick to respond to fans comments, likes and shares. We have found early on that contests (Sweepstakes & Promotions) are proven very successful in garnishing more followers and fans for our clients. The added benefit of this is that it will also have a positive impact on a websites SEO as well.
One of our clients has a number of fishing lodges. We custom wrote a script that is used on their website to collect the names and emails of all those who enter. The client also has a secure portal where they are able to view the emails and merge them into their email managment system. At the end of the sweepstakes the client can simply press a button and the custom script will select from the entries a winner at random. Each step of the way provides the client an opportunity to make Facebook posts, Google+ status updates and Tweets on Twitter. In this case the client’s email list grew by 1,300 new entries and the sweepstakes was shared close to 5,000 times.
Not every client can do this, but they can start improving their social presence by simply commiting to making 3 to 4 posts per week. OLWM does offer consulting on better practices and how to use tools like Hootsuite if time does not permit. The best advise I give is to post a stunning photo that is somehow related to your business. When you post the photo include an open ended question or find someway to get the fans to comment, like or share. A good example would be the post on Facebook (Zion National Park).
Once you have your fans conditioned to expecting to see beautiful photos or knowing they are going to get useful information in their feed they will actually be really quick to click “like”, but don’t be afraid of using the other social media outlets:
- Google+
- YouTube
- Tumblr
- Flickr
- Foursquare
- Yelp
- Digg
Social Media is like any other medium or tool. The more you use it the better you will get at it. Is it realistic to expect that either you or someone in your company will be committed to making posts and devoting the resources of finding where your customers are in the social media world? If you are not able to commit the time are you willing to hire a company with the proven track record and results to do it?
