Kanab History

The town of Kanab is celebrated as "Little Hollywood" for its large role in the making of over 100 western movies. The town of 4,000+ people is a great
place to stop for a few hours. Unique western shops, restaurants and even a Frontier Movie Town are available for the enjoyment of visitors.

The word Kanab comes from the Native American word for "willow basket used
to carry a baby on the it's mother's back. Pioneers first attempted settlement of the area in 1858.

Beginning in the 1940's Kanab, began to be utilized by Hollywood movie makers
as the base of operations for creating westerns. The great variety of western landscapes that surround the Kanab region has been an attraction for film and commercial backdrops ever since.
