Scenic highway 9:

The middle-eastern end of this road is where our resort resides on and we have three to four miles of the frontage from the boundary of Zion National Park going east toward Highway 89. This highway is open year-round to pass-through traffic and goes from I-15 on the west to Scenic Highway 89 on the East (total of about 50 miles). From the west you pass through the towns of Hurricane and Laverkin (good places for fuel and food). You rise up onto a plateau and pass the Hurricane Mesa where they do testing on rocket sleds.   You'll pass through the towns of Virgin, Rockville and Springdale. In Virgin there is a road that goes north to what is called the Kolob Plateau. This is a little traveled back-road (paved) that leads to Kolob Reservoir and some beautiful high mountain meadows filled with wild-flowers. (The end of this road is closed in winter - with snow). From Zion Mountain Ranch - just reverse this and you'll have your itinerary all figured out. The town of Rockville is filled with large boulders that have rolled from the cliffs above. Some boulders, the size of houses, have come to rest next to some homes after the homes were built. Rockville is a quaint and picturesque community. Springdale is filled with shops and restaurants and is a great place to stop for lunch or dinner and a little souvenir shopping. You may wish to visit the Zion Canyon Cinemax Theater or on weekends in the summer - check out the O.C. Tanner amphitheater for musical concert performances.
